Take Care When Posting Pictures on the Internet

The Internet is a great place for the free exchange of information, but that doesn’t mean that you should put everything about your life out there for people to see. Don’t assume, in other words, that it’s completely and perfectly safe to make your life an open book – or open web page. That’s especially true with pictures. Whether they’re of just you, you and friends, or just friends doing something fun, make sure no one in the pictures objects to them being publicly available. There have been people who’ve been denied jobs and had other problems because of pictures that were posted online, so being careful about who sees what is vital.

Ask for permission if there are other people in the picture with you, so you don’t have to worry about upsetting or endangering them. If you’re a woman, especially if you’re young and attractive, be careful about the pictures you post online. If people can figure out where you are from the pictures, they can stalk you. It might sound far-fetched, but it can and does happen. You don’t want it to happen to you, so it’s best to avoid anything that could make it easier for a disturbed person, an ex, or anyone else to find you easily.

Most people don’t think about those kinds of things until it happens to them or someone they know, but it’s better to be safe rather than sorry, and it’s better to think about those types of things beforehand. That way you don’t have any worries later on, or any regrets where you wish you wouldn’t have posted something for all the world to see. Pictures can be a great way to share with others, so you don’t have to avoid them entirely. Just be careful what you’re posting online, so you can protect your safety.
