Personal computers are fantastic for leisurely time. Many people enjoy the social networking sites and can kill hours on Facebook. Others love the Yahoo Fantasy Sports and spend countless hours reviewing players, setting lineups and making trades. While these are great ways to fill down time on the computer, others are on their computers to earn and make money. If you plan to be doing business on your computer, there are a couple of programs that are absolute must haves.
1.) Adobe Acrobat Reader- You won’t get very far in business without the ability to read a PDF file. Indeed, everything from quarterly statements to a review of the latest Ryan Gosling movie are now being transferred around the internet in PDF files. These are clean, professional looking documents that do not allow changes to be made to the document and often time you can’t even copy and paste sections of the report. The good news about Adobe is that it’s free to download and install. All it takes is a few minutes of your time to download the program and then easily walk yourself through the installation process.
2.) The Microsoft Suite- The suite of products includes Microsoft Word which allows you to type and save original documents. Microsoft Excel is an essential spreadsheet product. Many forms of data analysis are done on these spreadsheets including summing numbers and creating unique data sets used for other word. Powerpoint is used to create unique presentations you can save or share with clients. The Micosoft Suite is not free, costing somewhere in the neighborhood or $100, however if purchased en masse then it’s possible your company could have an extra licensed copy for you to use on your own personal computer.
Naturally, there are many more programs you will need to conduct business on your computer but these are a couple of the essentials. You may need to install an e-mail program if it is the one primarily used by your company. Otherwise, why not just use a G-mail account like the majority of the e-mail public is doing these days?
